The Washington State Legislature created OII in 2021 to conduct thorough, transparent, and unbiased investigations of cases that involve police use of deadly force. OII is unique in the nation, being led by a civilian director and tasked with developing a plan to eventually include civilian investigators on its teams.

We work to serve state agencies and community members. The goal of our office is to enact systems change throughout state government.

The Office of the Corrections Ombuds is on a mission to provide opportunities for people impacted by incarceration to raise issues and resolve conflicts. We work to reduce harm in the Washington corrections system by negotiating outcomes, recommending positive change, and reporting individual and systemic concerns.

ORIA helps people navigate Washington's environmental and business regulatory systems. Our information center provides citizens and businesses with information and understanding about local, state, and federal regulatory requirements. Our office collaborates with agencies and stakeholders on ways to improve regulatory systems for more effective services, including for small businesses. Our office is in Olympia, Washington.

Our mission is to improve the government's interface with the LGBTQ community, identifying the needs of its members, and ensuring that there is an effective means of advocating for LGBTQ equity in all aspects of state government (RCW 43.114).

The Office of the Family and Children’s Ombuds works to protect children, youth and families from harmful agency action or conduct, and to make agency officials and state policy makers aware of system-wide issues and recommendations in the child protection and child welfare system to strengthen families and improve outcomes for children and youth.

The Washington State Women’s Commission improves the life of every woman by ensuring equitable opportunities and removing systemic barriers through engagement, advocacy, and public policy, while being inclusive of our diverse populations.

The Oversight Board exists for the purpose of monitoring and ensuring that DCYF achieves the stated outcomes as intended by the legislation, and to ensure that the department complies with administrative acts, relevant statutes, rules, and policies pertaining to early earning, juvenile rehabilitation, juvenile justice, and children and family services.
